In May 2015, Dave and Lisa O’Brien were invited to the Women’s Recovery Center to witness recovery. What they saw was a building in disrepair. There were missing ceiling tiles, old and dirty carpeting and obvious evidence of water damage. Even under these conditions, the O’Briens met women that were on the path to recovery.
Dave and Lisa accepted the challenge of a capital campaign to reconfigure our facility and increase the efficiency of our space, allowing the Center to double the capacity to offer addiction treatment services for women and their families. There are not nearly enough resources for those serving on the front line of the opioid crisis, especially for programs that work with women.
The Capital Campaign Taskforce was formed: Dave and Lisa O’Brien, Lawreen Caldwell, Gregg and Regina Eisenberg, Blair Hollowell, Joan Papp, M.D., Jazmyn Stover, Mary Lekan, Mark Schroeder, Jennifer Piertonek, Tara DeVore, James Kenny, Kimberly Sark, Maureen Wood, Kathleen Colon, Nicole Inman, and Jennifer Bell.
The Center is awaiting the final inspection by the City of Cleveland and we are preparing for an increased number of clients and, in a few months, seeing babies and children entering the doors with their mothers. Thank you for seeing the vision and positively responding to Dave and Lisa O’Briens call to action. Thank you for your pledged support and for hosting special events to make introductions and open doors for the Center. With the support of the Taskforce, $932,662 was raised for the construction, reaching 94% of the goal.
Although we still have a number of small items to address, having access to a healing environment that was designed to be efficient and welcoming for women and their families has been transformative. We are in the initial planning stages for the Building Dedication in late June. It is our hope that you will join us and see the product of your work from the last two years. On behalf of our clients, staff and Board of Directors, thank you for your continued support.
