About Us

Our Approach

The Women’s Recovery Center is a unique place.  We utilize a holistic, trauma-integrated approach to treating chemical dependency, incorporating physical healing as well as emotional healing.

The women who enter our doors are complex and have faced multiple traumas which have contributed to their drug and alcohol abuse.  By using a trauma-integrated model, our addiction counselors help clients learn about their disease, how it developed, and how to cope in a sober environment.  Our graduates develop life management skills, parenting skills, and an overall sense of independence and self-sufficiency.

Treating Addiction…Liberating Lives

Our Mission: The Women’s Recovery Center provides comprehensive addiction treatment, prevention and education programs that are client-centered, family-based and recovery-focused.

At the Women’s Recovery Center, treatment services are based individual needs.  Our three-stage, comprehensive addiction treatment programs include: trauma recovery education, family roles and relationships education, parenting classes, art therapy, individual needs assessment, case management and relapse prevention education.  Treatment is available with morning, afternoon and evening hours.

The Women’s Recovery Center provides treatment for all women regardless of their ability to pay for services.  Fees are based on a sliding scale with many clients asked to pay nothing.

The Women’s Recovery Center has been recognized by the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board of Cuyahoga County as the 2002 Adult Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facility of the Year in Cuyahoga County and presented the John F. Lewis Award as an Outstanding Outpatient Treatment Facility.

The Name Change

The Women’s Center of Greater Cleveland was founded in 1986 with a small office, a few programs, and a bold vision. Today, the Women’s Center is the Women’s Recovery Center.

For many years the founders of the Women’s Recovery Center wanted to protect the anonymity of women who were seeking alcohol and other drug treatment. In recognizing the shame and seclusion that women experience with their addiction, it became apparent that the organizational name contributed to and reinforced the secretive nature and shameful aspects of the disease.   In 2011, with more than 25 years of providing alcohol and other drug treatment services for women and their families, the Board of Directors elected to change our name to match our organizational mission.
